Simply rinsing a hide under tap water is insufficient for a professional-grade vivarium. To secure a truly hygienic sanctuary, you must implement a systematic disinfection protocol that balances aggressive microbial elimination with total chemical safety.
Rule 1: Execute a Preliminary Mechanical Scrub
Disinfection is impossible on a surface covered in physical debris. Before introducing any sanitizing agents, you must remove all visible waste, shed skin, and dried substrate from the hide. Submerge the accessory in a basin of warm, dechlorinated water and use a dedicated stiff-bristled nylon brush to scrub every internal crevice and external texture. For natural wood hides like cork bark or grapevine, pay close attention to the deep ridges where mites or mold spores often hide.
